Full-time employment opportunity: Assistant Zoning Officer
Bethlehem Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, is seeking an Assistant Zoning Officer. This is a full-time professional position with a busy department in one of the fastest growing communities in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. The Assistant Zoning Officer will assist the Zoning Officer/Staff Planner with the review and issuance of building permits, zoning permits, and formal zoning opinions, and investigate complaints related to the Zoning Ordinance. The position provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of planning-related programs and ordinances, works with other code officials and township staff, and will sometimes be required to travel to sites in the field and perform inspections. The successful candidate will also participate in the proceedings of the Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, with preference given to planning, urban studies, government, or public administration majors, or related on-the-job experience. Candidates should have working knowledge of ordinances and local government. Strong customer service and relationship-building skills are also necessary.
